Thunder split with Rainy River

Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College split a Minnesota College Athletic Conference doubleheader with Rainy River Sunday afternoon in International Falls, winning the first game 11-6 and then falling 14-1.

In the first game, Thunder pitcher Richard Jubie tossed 6.2 innings to earn the win. He had four strikeouts. Fond du Lac's top hitters included Cody Anderson, who went 4-for-4 with two RBIs, and Bryce Karppinen, who was 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs.

Fond du Lac and Rainy River finished tied in the MCAC Northern Division standings at 3-9 and will meet in a play-in game Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Grand Rapids to determine which squad advances to the playoffs. The winner will move on to the divisional playoff round to play top-seeded Itasca Community College in a best-of-three game series next weekend.

In their inaugural season, the Thunder ended the regular season with a 3-17 record.
