‘Suspicious death’ ruled accidental
A possible “suspicious death” discovered Tuesday in a home on the 800 block of Eighth Street in Cloquet was ruled accidental, due to an apparent fall, according to an autopsy by the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s office, and not foul play as originally suspected.
According to a press release issued Tuesday afternoon by the Cloquet Police Department, officers were called to the residence at approximately 12:09 p.m. Tuesday where a body was discovered inside the residence.
Deputy Cloquet Police Chief Terry Hill said it’s better to be safe than sorry.
“When things don’t seem quite right, or they seem like they may be out of place, we need to err on the side of caution to protect the integrity of the suspected crime scene and investigation,” Hill said Wednesday.
BCA investigators were on the scene most of Tuesday afternoon with their traveling lab, as well as detectives from both the Cloquet Police Department and the Carlton County Sheriff’s Department.
The deceased man was identified as Dan Engebrecht Roen, age 61. Records indicate a Dan Roen used to work for the Minneapolis Police Department as a lieutenant on the Special Investigations Division. Both Hill and a neighbor said they believed he was a retired police officer.
The neighbor said the Roen lived quietly in the white house on the corner of the block.
