Christine Neumann and Crystal Moynan of Cloquet Senior High School joined high school students from around the world in SUNY Oswego’s fourth annual GENIUS Olympiad environmental competition, earning a bronze medal in science in the ecology and biodiversity category for a project titled “What Effect Does Gender, Tone, and Sound Location Have on the Response Behavior of Neogobius melanostomus (Round Goby) and the Possibility of Future Trapping of this Invasive Species in Lake Superior?”
About 600 participants — including competitors and their mentors from more than 50 countries and 30 states — made the trip to Oswego on the shores of Lake Ontario for competition in science, writing, art, design and music with an eye to helping find solutions for and raise awareness of environmental issues.
While SUNY Oswego hosts the GENIUS Olympiad, the organizer is Terra Science and Education Foundation of Syracuse.
