Strong storms possible in Northland today; snow possible Thursday
Dense fog across much of the Northland this morning may give way to strong, possibly severe thunderstorms across the region this afternoon. In the wake of the storms, light snow is possible on Thursday.
The National Weather Service in Duluth reports that warm, humid, unstable air may fuel strong to severe storms this afternoon and evening, with a chance of large hail, damaging winds, heavy rain and possibly a few tornadoes. The risk of severe weather is greatest over Northwestern Wisconsin, but severe storms also are possible in the Twin Ports, along the I=35 corridor and up the North Shore.
The best chance of severe weather will be late this afternoon and this evening, the Weather Service reported.
As the storms pull away overnight into Thursday, rain may mix with or change over to snow across the region. Areas from Duluth to the north and west, including the Iron Range, may see light accumulations of an inch or two on Thursday.
