Prep report: Duluth East holds off Hermantown for soccer win

Domenick Bergeland, Connor Danielson and Billy Renier scored goals and Duluth East held off Hermantown 3-2 in a high school boys soccer game Tuesday at Hermantown.

Danielson's goal was his team-leading 14th of the season and helped the Greyhounds (7-3-2) extend their unbeaten streak to four games.

Hermantown (9-3), playing its fifth game in six days, lost for the third time in that span.

Proctor 6, Hibbing 2

Ian Ecklund's three goals and two assists keyed the visiting Rails' nonconference win.

Cloquet-Esko-Carlton 1, Grand Rapids 1

Derek Anderson's penalty kick in the 32nd minute evened the score and goalkeepers Jarad Weeks of the Lumberjacks and Brice Becker of the Thunderhawks kept it that way the rest of the nonconference game at Grand Rapids.

Ashland 3, Duluth Denfeld 2

Johnny Sechen's 78th-minute goal broke a 2-2 tie and gave the host Oredockers the Lake Superior Conference victory.

Duluth Marshall 5, Superior 1

John Fox and Thomas Welinski had two goals apiece to lead the Hilltoppers to the Lake Superior Conference victory in Superior.

Bryan Wines scored the lone goal for the Spartans.

Girls soccer

Duluth Denfeld 3, Two Harbors 1

The Hunters scored three goals in the first half and cruised to the nonconference victory at Public Schools Stadium.

Proctor 1, Hibbing 0

Maria Palen's 36th-minute goal was all the host Rails needed offensively, while Kassie Haedtke came up with a six-save shutout in the nonconference matchup.

Grand Rapids 3, Deer River 1

Jessa Sondergaard totaled 15 kills to lead the host Thunderhawks to the victory.

Mountain Iron-Buhl 3, Chisholm 2

Allie Knuti had 19 kills and six blocks to lead the Rangers to the five-set winner, while Jersey Oie added 42 set assists.

Brianna Zunich had 23 kills, six digs and three blocks to lead the Bluestreaks.

Two Harbors 3, Carlton 2

Kaley Peterson had 20 kills as the host Agates rallied from two sets down to win the Polar League match.
