Pine Journal honored with Better Newspaper Contest awards
The Pine Journal took three first-place awards and one third-place award for its circulation class in the Better Newspaper Contest at last Thursday's Minnesota Newspaper Association Convention in Minneapolis.
Here's what the judges said:
Use of Photography as a Whole, weeklies 2,501-5,000, 20 entries. First place. Pine Journal, Cloquet
"A dominant, strong image anchors the photograph choices throughout. The lead news and sports photographs are real moments and peak action that tell the story."
Social Issues Story, weeklies 2,501-5,000, 50 entries. First place. Pine Journal, Cloquet, Jana Peterson
"The first-place winner clearly stood out because of
balanced reporting and good writing."

Epic flooding sweeps Carlton County
"Wonderful story telling. Multiple parts come together to reveal the human story in this tragedy."
Pine Journal Publisher Wendy Johnson brought home a third place award for her column, In Our Backyard. Johnson has been writing her column for almost 16 years.
The specific columns entered in the contest were:

"The night of the Full Wolf Moon" ~ Jan. 12, 2012
