Pamela Sue Reed-Beck
Pamela "Pam" S. Reed-Beck passed away Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, in Duluth, Minn. She was born Jan. 30, 1946, in Carlton, Minn., to Clifton and Marjorie (Johnson) Reed. Pam was a 1964 graduate of Cloquet High School, 1996 graduate of Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, and a 2013 graduate of the University of Minnesota-Duluth. She was united in marriage to Richard "Dick" Beck on April 17, 1993.
Pam worked for ISD 709, Minnesota Reading Corps, Georgia-Pacific, Goodwill Industries, Prudential Insurance, Fond du Lac Manufacturing, Conwed Corporation, Cloquet City Engineer's Office, First National Bank of Cloquet and Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet. She served as a mentor with Mentor Duluth, volunteered at Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank, was a member and former captain of the Zenith Terrace Neighborhood Watch, served as chartering president of the Cloquet Charter Chapter-American Business Women's Association, and was an advisor for the Conwed Junior Achievement program.
Pam was a member of Zion Lutheran Church since 1950 and frequently served as lector. She was always ready to step in at the last minute if necessary to read the lessons (thereby earning the nickname "Old Faithful"). She enjoyed reading, classical music, motorcycles (she owned two Hondas and two Harleys), animals, gardening, classic cars, puns and volunteering. Pam's best moment was passing her motorcycle road test with a perfect score in 1989. Her naughtiest moment involved accidentally releasing a gopher in the basement as a child.
Pam was preceded in death by her father, Clifton Reed.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; son, Michael (Claudia) Grider; daughter, Jacqueline (Robin) Horner; mother, Marjorie Reed; grandsons, Craig Schilling and Samuel Grider; granddaughter, Sasha Grider; sister, Sandra Reed; niece, Heidi, and nephew, Chad Holznagel; step-children, Susan (George) Armstrong, Donald Beck, Michael (Julie) Beck and Richard Beck Jr.; step-grandchildren, Melissa, Nicholas, Jacob, Denise, Denita, Donna, Sebastian and Gabrielle; and step-great-grandchildren, Melissa and Cody.
Visitation was held Wednesday, Jan. 8, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service at Zion Lutheran Church in Cloquet. A luncheon followed in the church social hall. Inurnment was in the Zion Columbarium.
Memorials are preferred to Zion Lutheran Church, Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank or a charity of the donor's choice.
