This Fourth of July will be a time of celebrating milestones in Moose Lake. The 2014 Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration will mark the 95th year the local festival has been held. This year’s event will also honor the 125th anniversary of the city of Moose Lake.

The 2014 theme, “Remembering Our Hometown Traditions,” will represent the finest in family entertainment that the picturesque northern Minnesota has to offer, including a parade, U.S. Air Force aerial flyover, live music, games, contests, sporting events and a fireworks display.

The planning committee for this year’s Fourth event consists of volunteers from non-profit associations, churches and local businesses, all of whom have devoted countless hours to keeping the community celebration going strong over the years.

“This patriotic holiday celebration gives our community the opportunity to bring families and friends together by doing something fun, positive and healthy, like the Moose Lake Triathlon and the Moose Paddle, and to enjoy the festivities,” said a committee spokesman.

The celebration starts out with a Kiddie Bicycle Parade on Thursday, July 3, at 10 a.m., with lineup beginning by H&R Block. The Independence Day Parade is set for Friday, July 4, at 10 a.m., honoring John Weseley as Grand Marshal. The parade will be followed by an Old-Fashioned Celebration in the Moose Lake City Park from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. There will be free admission to the park, rides, games, food, live music family picnics, swimming and all-day fun.

A sloppy joe lunch and ice cream social will be held at United Methodist Church from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. From 1-9 p.m., the American Legion will host bingo at the city park, and the All-Class Reunion will be held at Riverside Arena from 5-11 p.m., featuring music by Whiskey River.

The celebration will conclude with the fireworks display at Moose Lake City Park beginning at approximately 10 p.m.

Other events planned for the week will be the Miss Moose Lake pageant at 7 p.m. July 1 at Moose Lake High School and the Holy Angels Grand Breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon on July 6. The All-Class Reunion events will continue from July 3-6. For a full schedule of reunion events, go to mooselakeallclassreunion.com.
