Michael Joseph Lawrence Micke

On Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, the Lord's Day, we lost a husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Following a short battle with complications from heart surgery, Michael Joseph Lawrence Micke gave up the fight and left on his journey home surrounded by his loving family. Mike was born in Cloquet, Minn., on Sunday, Sept. 24, 1950, to Roderick and Marjorie (Denzler) Micke. He graduated from Cloquet in 1968 and went to DAVIT, graduating with a degree in auto mechanics. Mike was involved in Boy Scouts and was an Eagle Scout.

In 1970, Mike moved to Winona, Minn., and worked at the Tousley Ford Garage. While there, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, stationed in Fort Knox and Fort Riley. On Oct. 28, 1972, he met and married the love of his life, Connie Kern. Together they raised two beautiful children, Crystal and Jim.

Mike enjoyed working on cars at Benna Ford in Superior, Wis., and owned a business in Cloquet for 10 years. Mike and Connie moved to Belgrade, Mont., in 2006 and then to Bend, Ore., in 2013. Mike loved the outdoors - fishing, hunting, camping and boating. With the birth of his first grandchild, he realized what fun was all about! He never let his health problems stop him from welcoming each and every grandchild into his heart and arms. They were the spring in his step and the sparkle in his eyes.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; daughter Danielle; son Aaron; and father-in-law, Robert Kern.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Connie; children, Crystal (Bruce) Weber and Jim (Heather); grandchildren, Isabell, Gabriell and Abigail Weber and Carson and Hunter Micke; brothers, Gary (Tina) and David; sisters, Diane (Dave) Antus, Debbie (Scott) Nylund and Donna (Gordy) Janke; in-laws, Bob (Connie) Kern, Candy Buchleitner and Nick (Tommi) Kern; mother-in-law, Betty Kern; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A memorial will be held this summer in Cloquet.
