Local students attend Camp RYLA
The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Camp was held recently at the University of Minnesota-Crookston. Each camper is sponsored by their local Rotary club and this year there were 149 RYLA campers that were sponsored by 57 Rotary International Clubs from District 5580. Local students Lily Pirila, Aleesha Slattengren, Sarah Bisel, George Stein and Darin Davidson were sponsored by the Cloquet Rotary Club.
Most of the students who participated in this year’s RYLA camp will be high school seniors in 2014-2015. Camp RYLA’s mission is to provide outstanding high school students with a variety of educational and recreational activities. These activities provide numerous opportunities for leadership and team building, and they are designed to expand, improve, and refine the participants’ leadership skills.
RYLA campers are sponsored by their local Rotary Club, and campers are hosted by the Crookston Rotary Club, Rotary International District 5580, and UMC. The students stay in the residence halls on campus during this week-long program.
