Jump for joy

Got ski jumping?

Cloquet does, and so does Coleraine.

Ski club members from both northern Minnesota towns came together for the annual Northstar Cup over the past two weeks, jumping on two different nights at Coleraine's Mt. Itasca.

The atmosphere at the competition was more akin to a neighborhood party than any long-standing rivalry. Emceed by the Itasca Club's Coach Sue Kavanagh - who marveled at Woody Waugh's marvelous cow suit - the meet featured jumpers from age 3 through the teen years, sailing through the air off jumps sized from 5 through 40 meters.

For their efforts, they were awarded hugs, medals and trophies.

It was back to the drawing board this week as the youth jumpers practiced at Pine Valley.
