Thanks to hard work and Mother Nature, the Wal-Mart entrance opened a day early, on Tuesday morning, said Jim Sorenson, Minnesota Department of Transportation Highway 33 project manager.
Major work this week will include the following:
- Concrete paving shoulders and turn lanes;
- Making shoulders for the road;
- Paving at closed intersections;
- Adding curb and gutter; and
- Making traffic control switch.
Traffic is expected to be switched onto the newly constructed northbound lanes next week, weather permitting. This will allow for more access to the business areas as northbound traffic will be able to access the area from additional streets. Southbound access will still be limited to the signalized intersections.
Traffic disruptions include the southbound Interstate 35 to northbound Highway 33 ramp closure and the the southbound Highway 33 to northbound I-35 ramp closure. Traffic is being detoured onto Cloquet Avenue and CSAH 45 during the ramp closures. Lane restrictions on Big Lake Road and Doddridge Avenue will continue.
