Highway 33 detour to go into effect July 8
Starting on July 8, the following changes will occur on the Highway 33 renovation project:
1. The Highway 33 traffic will be placed in a head-to-head configuration using the southbound lanes as the northbound lanes are reconstructed.
2. The ramp to northbound I-35 from Highway 33 will be closed. Southbound traffic on Highway 33 wishing to exit to northbound I-35 will be detoured to the Scanlon ramp via Cloquet Avenue.
3. The southbound I-35 ramp to northbound Highway 33 (Exit 237) will be closed. Traffic will be detoured using Exit 239 to Highway 45, to Cloquet Avenue and back to Highway 33.
4. The frontage road on the south end of the project will be closed to Highway 33 access. Access will be open to southbound I-35 only.
Doddridge Avenue and Big Lake Road will be single lane in each direction and the frontage road entrances will be closed on both east and west sides of Highway 33 at Doddridge and Big Lake Road.
A temporary signal system has been placed in service at the Big Lake Road intersection and traffic will be pushed to the north half of the road. Delays can be expected as traffic will be in a single lane. Motorists are encouraged to take alternate route to avoid the construction zone.
