Exchange student thanks community
Cloquet Minnesota 122 Avenue C 55720

To the Editor:

I’m an exchange student from Cologne, Germany and I spent a whole school year here in Cloquet, Minnesota.

It has always been a dream of mine to spend a year abroad as an exchange student.

I have been staying with the Roemhildt family and attending Cloquet Senior High School. Time is going by so fast! It is over already…

A lot of people are helping me make this year unique and a wonderful experience and I want to say Thank You:

Special thanks to my host family who opened their hearts and have taken care of me like a family member from the very first day I arrived.

My host family is the best host family I can think of: caring and always there for me!

I am making memories that will last a lifetime!

I want to thank my American family and my new friends: Without you, I would have never been able to have such a wonderful time! My host parents, Regina and Michael Roemhildt, are my biggest supporters and help me if I’m having problems or just a bad day. I love my host family and can’t imagine being placed with a better family. Although, I don’t see my three older host brothers very often, we get along very well and have a lot of fun. I especially want to thank my host sister who is the best (and only) sister I have ever had! We laugh a lot and I have already taken her into my heart. She is always there if I need a last-minute ride somewhere and helps me with my homework.

Living away from home, on the other side of the world, can also be difficult sometimes. Experiencing a different culture and learning a different language often causes misunderstandings. Nevertheless, I’ve learned to be grateful, independent, and more self-confident while meeting new people and going to an American high school. I love the “American Way of Living” and I’m thankful for all the people who help me make this year such an awesome experience.

This exchange year has changed my life and the way I think about people and different cultures. I’m improving my English and learning a lot about American history. It is so exciting getting to know a different culture and living in a different family!

I want to thank all of you for everything you have done for me!
