Esko's Peterson picks St. Scholastica
Esko’s Marc Peterson has played sports all his life, so when the senior superstar decided last week he was going to play a pair in college, he knew the opportunity was right.
Peterson will look to be the right fit next year by playing both football and basketball for the College of St. Scholastica, announcing his commitment to the Division III Upper Midwest Athletic Conference private school last Thursday.
Peterson, a 6-foot-3, 165-pound quarterback and point guard for the Eskomos, led his high school to several state tournament berths in each sport over time. Last fall, he was 96 of 165 passing for 1,591 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also helped win Esko’s first-ever boys basketball state title in the Class AA championship in March. For his career, he scored 1,393 points, including a school record 295 3-pointers.
Peterson, who is seeking a path within engineering, said he was also considering athletics at Macalester, St. Thomas and Valley City State (N.D.) before selecting on the Saints.
“I’ve played three sports since I was 5 years old, so if I didn’t play any, I would be a bump on a log,” Peterson said. “They gave me a great opportunity. It was the perfect fit.”
