Eskomos enter halftime down, but ...
MINNEAPOLIS — Struggling to rebound the basketball early on, Esko will also need to rebound on the scoreboard, as the Eskomos currently trail Fairmont 27-23 at halftime of a Class AA state boys basketball semifinal tonight at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
Second-seeded Esko (27-3) is being out-boarded by the No. 3 Cardinals (25-4) 21-14 overall and to make matters worse, Fairmont has fielded nine offensive rebounds to fuel their four-point edge after 18 minutes.
Lucky to only be down by single digits, the Eskomos — which lost in last year’s semifinal to Litchfield — are sure to have their hands full with Fairmont, a southern Minnesota town just miles from the Iowa border, which also played Esko for fifth in the 1955 state tournament.
Esko standout senior Kory Deadrick, the school’s all-time leading scorer, leads all players with 12 points, while the Cardinals’ have two scorers with seven each.
Editor's note: The Eskomos came through in a big way during the second half and won the game 56-43. Stay tuned for Tyler Korby's final story on the game.
