Esko girls enter State under the radar
The Esko girls basketball team has taken a recent ride through school history, not only winning a section championship last week, but raising their plaque just hours after the Esko boys hoisted their state title trophy.
Seeking their own state title this week, Esko entered the girls state basketball tournament Wednesday night, facing New London-Spicer in a Class AA quarterfinal at the University of Minnesota’s Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis as this edition of the Pine Journal went to press.
The unseeded, under-the-radar Eskomos (25-5), making their 10th state appearance and first since 2007, have honed a stingy defense all year, allowing a mere 39.6 points per game.
All of Esko’s games will be carried on WKLK radio.
“We’re optimistic,” Esko Coach Scott Antonutti said earlier this week. “We intend to go down there and compete.”
