College football: Thunder player charged

A Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College football player was arrested in Georgia earlier this month.

James Victor Griffin, 18, was charged with possession of marijuana, driving under the influence of drugs and failure to maintain lane on Oct. 14 in Henry County, Ga. Griffin is from McDonough, Ga. All charges appear to be misdemeanors.

Griffin rushed for more than 1,000 yards this season. The Thunder ended their season with a 31-24 Minnesota College Athletic Conference semifinal playoff loss to Rochester on Saturday.

Keith Turner, FDLTCC athletic director and football coach, said Wednesday that he knew of the charges and was "letting it run its course" through the legal system, waiting for the courts to determine if Griffin is guilty or not.

If Griffin is found guilty by the courts, Turner said the school and the coaching staff would follow Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System guidelines regarding discipline. According to Turner, if a student-athlete is found guilty of a crime, he or she would be suspended from the team, but not from school.
