The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton freshman skied the classic race in 18 minutes, 17.4 seconds, besting a trio from Mesabi East-Virginia-Eveleth Gilbert, including second-place Emma Greenlee, who is also a freshman. Fox’s teammates Sylvie Deters (15th) and Emma Waugh (18th), both freshmen, helped secure a fourth-place finish for CEC in the six-team meet, originally scheduled for Ely, but moved to Duluth due to a student memorial service.

The CEC boys finished fifth among eight teams, led by seniors Nick Tomhave and Josh Carlson plus sophomore Robby Sobczak in 20th, 23rd and 24th, respectively. Tomhave’s time of 18:01.1 led the Cloquet contingent. Keaton Long of Duluth East won the

5K in 15:05.6.

CEC races again Thursday, Dec. 19, in Coleraine, at the Mount Itasca Ski Area.
