Beaupre commits to St. Olaf
CLOQUET—It was only fitting for Valentine’s Day that Cloquet’s Chandler Beaupre fell in love with St. Olaf College.
Last Wednesday the Lumberjack senior softball standout officially committed to the Oles, but it was during a trip to the Northfield, Minn., campus and team sleepover in February that Beaupre decided the Division III private school, and member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, was it.
“That’s when I knew,” said Beaupre of her overnight stay.
Beaupre, a powerful 5-foot-7, right-handed pitcher who began playing her favorite sport around third grade, has been a constant for Cloquet. A four-year varsity player — including three-year starter and current two-year captain — Beaupre has recorded 204 career strikeouts, 100 last season alone, throwing 106 of the 108 innings for the Lumberjacks.
In 2012, Beaupre helped bring Cloquet to just their school’s second-ever state tournament — a place she wants to return to before majoring in child psychology come next fall.
“I’m always ready to play; it’s on my mind all the time,” she said of softball. “We want to take this as far as we can.”
