BBE beating Fond du Lac at half
MINNEAPOLIS — Turnovers have hurt the Fond du Lac Ojibwe boys basketball team as they currently trail Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 45-32 at halftime of a Class A state semifinal today at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
Fifth-seeded FDL (24-3) had four giveaways in their first six possessions, leading to 12 turnovers in the opening 18 minutes and a challenge ahead of them if they want to stun the No. 1, top-seeded Jaguars (29-1).
The Ogichidaa, playing in their tiny tribal school’s first-ever state tournament in any sport, tied the up-and-down-the-floor game at 12-12 when lone senior Trenontae Brown made an entertaining four-point play, moments after tossing a left-side alley-oop to teammate Davonte Williamson, but has not yet once held the lead.
Williamson has 13 points to lead the Ogichidaa, followed by Brown’s 12, while BBE is paced Billy Borgerding’s 14 and standout Brian Goodwin’s dozen.
