Arlene Peterson, 88, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, at Sunnyside Health Care Center in Cloquet. She was born Nov. 7, 1925, in Cloquet to Nels and Hilda (Backstrom) Johnson. Arlene was a lifelong resident of Cloquet, graduating from Cloquet High School in 1943. She worked for the former Northwest Paper Company as a secretary after high school. Arlene married Roland Peterson in July 1946.
Arlene was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and had been involved in numerous church activities while her children were growing up. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing and baking. Her family built a cabin on Round Lake and spent many weekends and vacations there. Being a lifelong resident, Arlene was especially knowledgeable about Cloquet families and their connections to each other.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Roland, in 1991 and her son-in-law Tom Burry.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol (Dan) Burrows and Nancy Burry; son, David R. (Lori); brother, Walt Johnson; grandchildren, Scott Burrows, Jessica Friess and Jennifer Lambert; and five great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the Sunnyside Health Care Center staff for their loving care of Arlene.
Visitation: Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
