COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 13, 2017
The Wrenshall Board of Education's Committee of the Whole meeting was held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 in the Wrenshall School Library Media Center.
Members present: Matthew Laveau, Janaki Fisher-Merritt, Michelle Blanchard, and Warren Weiderman.
Members Absent: Renae House, and Tony Sheda.
Superintendent Belcastro reported on Ehlers Financial regarding a possible bond sale and that they will be reporting back to us with the highest possible amount for non-voter approved levy.
Fuel bids were discussed. Final acceptance will be at September 18 Board meeting.
Roof bids were opened and discussed. Final acceptance will be at September 18 Board meeting.
Infinite Campus online payment system was discussed and will require a public hearing to discuss how it will work and the transaction fees.
Superintendent Belcastro shared the latest 2017/2018 enrollment update and the 2017/2018 class size update.
Superintendent Belcastro reported that all buses passed inspection this fall. Any new Duluth students will need to provide their own transportation as the Duluth buses are currently at capacity. One of the bus drivers has resigned but will stay on the job until a new driver is in place.
Superintendent Belcastro reminded everyone that September 22 is an Early Release day for students.
The Business Manager position will be open at Wrenshall School with the expected resignation of Connie Skarbakka. The Business Manager job description is currently under review.
Superintendent Blecastro, Mike Smith - Director of Buildings and Grounds, and Dick Tracy - Health and Safety Consultant, discussed the Recreation Building closure and its effect on the use of the main building gymnasium. Much of the discussion centered around the need for a gym curtain to be put up creating two class areas in the main building gymnasium.
Superintendent Belcastro discussed the new facility steering committee which will have its first meeting on Thursday, September 21, at 5:00 pm in the Library Media Center. The committee will consist of three concerned citizen representatives, three Grow Wren representatives, two School Board members, and three District representatives for a total of 11 members on this new committee.
Timothy Soden-Groves, Carlton resident, shared information about and from the Wrenshall Carlton Better Together Facilities Committee.
Board member had a question about the new Wrenshall School website at isd100.org.
Community member reported finding a company who offers 4X8 mats for Recreation Building.
Community member asked about receiving timely information on a phone message board.
Community members expressed opinions regarding the presented materials.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
