Wright-Cromwell News: July 27 2017

Praise God for the wonderful 100th anniversary of the Bethlehem church sanctuary July 23. It was exactly 100 years to the day since the first service was held in the sanctuary in 1917. There were so many stories and facts to share and we are grateful for all the speakers, musicians, members, and pastors who performed or sent well wishes, for the kitchen crew for all their work, and the beautiful flower arrangements by Calvin Heikkila. I have all the other stories I read and can make copies if you are interested. I want to thank everyone who helped make this such a wonderful day! Everyone did his or her part and everything blended together so well. Parts of the service were emotional, but well worth the emotion. We have a great foundation to build on now and into the future. We have a wonderful family here at Bethlehem and we appreciate all of you. If you haven't been to church lately, we invite you to come. We miss you and we want to make this your church family and home. Everyone is welcome here!

This is what one person wrote after attending the anniversary: "Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright had a wonderful service and brunch celebrating the 100th anniversary of their first worship service in their sanctuary. Wonderful music by Pat Cain, Mary Varo, Quint and Destiny Schultz (Quint does a mean version of "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" that was actually foot stompin'. Loved it! Congratulations to the fellowship of believers in Wright!"

It was great to have Quint and Destiny Schultz at church on Sunday. They have been teaching in the International School in Saudi Arabia this past year and will return again in mid-August. They both are such talented musicians and they added so much to the anniversary celebration.

The Bethlehem women's group held another successful Pie Sale Friday, July 14, with over 30 pies donated to the cause. We made over $600 and it will all be put to good use. We are thankful for all the workers, pie bakers, cleanup crew and especially the folks who donated so generously. We always look forward to this special event during Wrong Days in Wright.

The Bethlehem women's group is also collecting items for the Carlton County Crisis Shelter; special need is diapers. Just drop them off in the fellowship hall. We are still collecting "Socks for Detox" and any other donations for Seafarers, youth, etc.

The Cromwell-Wright Public School is exploring a plan for a major facility expansion and upgrade in the near future. Informational meetings will take place at the school at 5 p.m. July 27 and at 7 p.m. Sept. 13, plus a newsletter can be obtained at the school if you want more information. The election will take place Nov. 7 to approve this planned expansion.

There will be a special election Tuesday, Aug. 8, conducted by mail for the city of Cromwell to vote on splitting the current liquor license so a new establishment can be built in Cromwell.

Congratulations to Johanna Johnson of Wright as she finished sixth in the discus at the Class A meet with a throw of 120 feet 3 inches. On the June 17 Johnson competed in the USA Track and Field Minnesota Championships in Lakeville, finishing third with a throw of 126'4" qualifying her for the USATF Region 8 Championships in La Crosse, Wis. Johanna has been busy competing in several competitions this summer.

As some of you may know, my husband Bob had a stroke on July 15. He spent four days in St. Luke's Hospital and is now home recovering until surgery on the 27th on his left carotid artery blockage. With the help of his medicine, he is really improved and we can hope and pray for a successful surgery this week. He was even able to be in church and help with the greetings and serving the coffee. We can be so thankful for that.

Our sympathy to the family of Julia Bertelsen Suonvieri, 100, of Floodwood who died July 13, 2017. She was the sister of Jens and Floyd Bertelsen and leaves a large list of descendants.
