The job status of Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys hockey coach Dave Esse is expected to be resolved tonight at a Cloquet School Board meeting, the third time the board has met to discuss the future of the 14-year coach after a parental complaint to have him removed was filed Feb. 4.
At a news conference scheduled for Monday afternoon, Mike Sundin, a longtime activist for the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, plans to announce his candidacy to serve in the Minnesota House of Representatives for the newly drawn District 11A.
The Cloquet School Board will face some tough decisions in the coming months after they simultaneously voted to adopt a full-day kindergarten program, as well as authorized administrators to look into cutting up to $500,000 from next year’s budget.
The Carlton School Board held a special meeting Monday, March 14, and ratified the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Carlton Education Association. The bargaining unit had ratified the agreement at a meeting in February. The agreement does not include any increase on the teachers’ salary schedule. Teachers who were eligible did receive step, lane, and longevity increases. In order to settle the agreement the board also approved the settlement of two outstanding grievances involving pay for extra assignments.
Through staff repositioning, the Cloquet School Board has a plan for the vacant buildings and grounds director position. Board members approved of four agenda items during Monday night’s regular meeting that would rearrange custodial staff members in lieu of hiring a new director.
